Paving Experts Ottawa covers 17 paving services for homes, laneways and parking lots, from crack sealing at $200 to $500 a visit to new asphalt at $5 to $10 per sq ft and interlock at $20 to $35. Each service page lists its own price range.
Asphalt, interlock, concrete, tar and chip, gravel
Repair and maintenance as well as new builds

Every quote itemised and site specific
Not sure which one you need?
Describe what the surface is doing and we will tell you which service actually applies.
We will say so if the honest answer is a smaller job.
How to pick the right service
Three questions sort almost every driveway into the right category.
Does water sit on it?
Standing water after rain, or ice sheets in winter, means a grade or drainage problem. Resurfacing over that just buries it. Start with excavation and drainage.
Does it move under your feet?
Soft, springy or rutted areas mean the base has failed. A surface fix will telegraph through within a season. That is repair or full replacement territory.
Is it only the surface?
Tight cracks, fading and light ravelling on a firm base are maintenance. Crack sealing and sealing will buy years for a fraction of a rebuild.

Asphalt Paving
Hot mix laid and compacted to the Ontario standard.
Asphalt is the default: cheapest durable surface per square foot, down in a day on most driveways, and it tolerates the flexing Champlain Sea clay produces. Its weaknesses are ultraviolet oxidation and water getting in through cracks, which is exactly what sealing and crack sealing address. Interlock costs several times more and what you buy is repairability. When a section settles, and on this ground something eventually will, the pavers come up, the base is corrected and the same stone goes back. No seam, no colour mismatch, no patch. Concrete sits between them on price and is the least forgiving of ground movement.
Our Process
What happens after you call
1
We ask what it is doing
Cracking, sinking, holding water or simply worn. The symptom usually narrows it to two services before anyone drives out.
2
We come and look
We measure the real area, check the grade and probe for soft spots. Photos go with the quote so you can see what we saw.
3
You get options, not one number
Where a repair and a replacement are both defensible, we price both and explain what each one buys you.
4
We book to the weather
Asphalt work is scheduled against the temperature spec and the spring load restrictions, not against a wish list.
$0.25 to $0.55Per sq ft to seal, against $8 to $14 to remove and repave
6 to 12 monthsNew asphalt must cure before its first seal
2 to 3 yearsRight resealing interval for Ottawa, not annually
$200 to $500Typical crack repair visit, the cheapest way to stop water reaching the base
What we will not do
Quote from a photograph
We measure the real area, check the fall and probe for soft spots. A number given over the phone is a guess dressed as a price.
Call age a reason to replace
The City of Ottawa states directly that pavement age is not a factor in how it assesses performance, and prioritises condition. We assess the same way.
Pave below the Ontario spec
OPSS 310 requires 7 C and rising for an asphalt surface course. We move the date rather than lay a mat that cannot be compacted.
Promise a March start
Seasonal load restrictions run roughly early March to mid May and limit the trucks that carry our aggregate and hot mix.
Why the service list is this long
A driveway is a structure, not a surface, and structures fail in specific ways that call for specific fixes. Lumping it all under paving is how a homeowner pays for a full replacement when crack sealing would have bought five more years, or pays for an overlay that cracks in the same places by spring.
The seventeen services sort into four groups. New builds put down a surface where there was none. Resurfacing and repair extend what is already there. Maintenance slows the deterioration. Groundwork fixes the thing that caused the failure in the first place.
That last group is the one most often skipped, and it is why driveways get rebuilt twice. Frost damage needs a frost susceptible soil, freezing temperatures and available water, all three at once. Ottawa supplies the first two whatever anyone does. Water is the only variable a contractor controls, and controlling it is groundwork, not paving.
Commercial work runs on different constraints
A commercial lot cannot simply close. Work gets phased so traffic and deliveries keep moving, which usually means night or weekend work and a sequence agreed before anyone mobilises. Structural sections get sized for the vehicles that actually use the lot, and a loaded truck is a different design problem from a car.
Line painting has its own economics. Per stall rates across Canadian markets run roughly $4 to $14 with a mobilisation charge on top and a minimum job of a few hundred dollars, so a small lot pays proportionally more. Combining restriping with a seal or a repair visit is the sensible way to handle it.
Any workmanship warranty is set out in your written quote, job by job. Call (343) 314-8525 and describe what the surface is doing.
Questions about choosing a service
Can you resurface instead of replacing?
Only if the base underneath is still sound. An overlay runs roughly $2.50 to $6 per square foot against $8 to $14 to remove and repave, so it is worth checking properly. If the driveway has soft spots, holds water or has alligator cracking, an overlay will fail at the same places within a season or two.
Is interlock better than asphalt in Ottawa?
Different, not better. Interlock flexes with ground movement and individual pavers can be lifted and relaid when a section settles, which matters on clay. Asphalt costs far less up front, roughly $5 to $10 per square foot against $20 to $35, and is faster to install. Both need the same base depth and the same drainage.
What about permeable paving?
The City of Ottawa names permeable pavement and honeycomb or turf blocks as acceptable driveway surfaces, and the new Access By-law explicitly permits permeable surfaces to absorb stormwater. It is worth considering where the 50 percent soft landscaping rule is limiting how much parking you can legally create.
Do you do the small jobs?
Yes. Be aware that per square foot rates rise sharply on small work because the crew, paver and roller mobilise the same either way. Published Canadian size tiers put 100 to 500 square feet at $10 to $15 per square foot against $6 to $10 for 1,001 to 5,000. Bundling a small job alongside neighbours or with sealing brings it down.
Which service do commercial properties usually need?
Most commercial enquiries start as a pothole problem and turn out to be a drainage or base problem. We assess the lot as a whole, phase the work so the property stays open, and separate what must be done this season from what can wait.
