Where we work, and where to find us

1 Hines Road in Ottawa, working across the city and out past the boundary into Prescott and Russell, Lanark and North Grenville.

Four things to have ready when you call

No measurements, no photographs, no diagnosis. Three of these you already know.

Rough size, in cars

One car, two side by side, or a long rural approach. Almost nobody estimates square footage accurately and we are going to measure it anyway.

What it is doing wrong

In whatever words come naturally. Cracking, sinking, holding water after rain, crumbling where it meets the road, or simply faded and tired.

Where the property is

The rules and the ground both change across this region, and it tells us immediately whether a City access permit is going to be involved.

Our Process

What happens after you get in touch

1

We reply within one business day

Usually with two or three questions, because the answers often narrow the job to a single service before anyone drives out.

2

We book the site visit

We measure the real area, walk the grade, look at the apron and probe for soft spots. Photographs go with the quote so you can see what we saw.

3

You get an itemised quote

Base depth, surface thickness, drainage, disposal and any City permit on separate lines, with the permit timing flagged if it applies.

4

We book against the weather

Asphalt is scheduled to the temperature spec and around spring load restrictions. We will move a date rather than lay a mat that cannot be compacted.

What arrives after the site visit

A written, itemised quote

Base depth, surface thickness, drainage work and any City permit as separate lines, so you can compare us to anyone else line by line rather than comparing two bottom numbers.

Photographs of what we found

The soft spots, the standing water, the grade at the garage. You see what we saw rather than taking our word for the diagnosis.

The honest option, including the smaller one

Where a repair and a replacement are both defensible we price both and say what each one buys you. The City itself states pavement age is not a factor in assessing condition.

A realistic date

Booked against the Ontario temperature specification and the spring load restrictions, not against a wish list.

Reaching us from outside the city boundary

Five of the sixteen areas we cover are not in the City of Ottawa. Rockland is in Clarence-Rockland, Embrun and Russell are in the Township of Russell, Carleton Place is in Lanark County and Kemptville is in North Grenville. The Ottawa access permit process, its fee and its six to eight week timeline do not apply in any of them, and entrance approvals go through the local municipality instead. Tell us the town when you call and we will point you at the right office rather than quoting Ottawa’s rules at you and leaving you to find out later.

Why we will not price a driveway from a photograph

A photograph shows the surface. What decides the price sits underneath it and behind it: whether the base is still firm, where the water goes, and what the subgrade turns out to be. Much of this region sits on Champlain Sea clay, which loses more than sixty times its strength once disturbed, and the City requires boreholes at 30 to 50 metre spacing for infill housing because conditions vary that much across a single street. A number given over the phone is a guess dressed as a price, and it is the reason so many driveways get quoted twice.

What to tell us in the first message

Three pieces of information turn a vague enquiry into a useful conversation on the first reply.

Roughly how big it is

Cars rather than square feet is fine. A single is around 300 square feet, a standard double 600 to 800, a three car apron 900 to 1,200. Rural laneways we measure on site because there is no useful average.

What it is doing wrong

Cracking, sinking, holding water after rain, crumbling at the road edge or simply faded and worn. The symptom points at whether this is maintenance, repair or a structural job.

Where the property is

Inside the City of Ottawa a new or wider access needs a City permit. In Rockland, Embrun, Russell, Carleton Place and Kemptville a different municipality approves the entrance entirely.

What a quote from us includes

Every one of these is a separate line on the document, which is what makes two quotes comparable.

Measured area, not estimated area

We measure the driveway rather than working from your recollection or a satellite image. On work priced per square foot this is the number everything else multiplies.

Granular depth and compaction target

What goes under the surface and what it is compacted to. If a competing quote does not state this, you have no way of knowing what you are buying.

Drainage and grading, priced separately

If water is currently sitting on the driveway, correcting that is its own line. Burying a drainage problem under a new surface is the most common reason a driveway gets rebuilt twice.

Permit fees shown at cost

A residential access permit is $193 and a culvert inspection $112. Where either applies, it appears as a City fee rather than being folded into the rate.

The warranty position, stated plainly

Any workmanship warranty is set out in your written quote, job by job. We do not publish a blanket figure on a website, because the jobs are not comparable.

Before you call

What information speeds up a quote?

Rough size in cars, what the surface is doing wrong, the year the house was built and the property location. Those four things usually narrow a job to one or two services and tell us whether a City access permit is likely to be involved, which is the item that affects your timeline most.

Do you charge for the site visit?

No. The site visit and the written quote are free and carry no obligation. We would rather spend an hour looking at a driveway than issue a number that has to be revised once someone stands on it.

Can we get a rough figure over the phone?

We can give you the published market ranges, which are on our cost page, and we will happily walk through them. We will not turn those into a price for your specific driveway without seeing it, because base condition and drainage swing the figure more than square footage does.

Is there a minimum job size?

There is no formal minimum, but small jobs carry a higher rate per square foot because a crew, a paver and a roller mobilise the same either way and hot mix is sold by the tonne with a minimum load. Published Canadian size tiers run $10 to $15 per square foot at 100 to 500 square feet against $6 to $10 at 1,001 to 5,000. Bundling with neighbours or with sealing helps.

How far ahead should we be getting in touch?

Earlier than most people expect, if a permit is involved. City of Ottawa access permit processing takes six to eight weeks, and the practical paving season here runs from early May to mid October. A new or widened driveway enquiry made in August is already tight for the same year.

Tell us what the driveway is doing

One sentence is enough to start. We reply within one business day and the site visit costs nothing.
